Welcome to Take A Hike – the Leeds and Bradford young persons’ walking group.We are a very friendly walking group run by the members and part of the Ramblers Association.
We have at least one walk organised every weekend (usually more!) and new members are always welcome to come along and get their boots dirty. Our walks vary from everything between easy four-mile rambles to masochistic fourteen-mile hikes across the dales so you will always find something suited to your tastes.
It’s that time again! Time again to don reindeer hats (preferably with flashing LED Christmas lights); time again to stand under miscellaneous green foliage and snog… I mean kiss the next elf to wander past. Time again to eat, drink and make merry! We’re back at our new favourite venue The Adelphi on Saturday 10th December and tickets are only £15 which includes a full buffet with Mince Pies & Clotted Cream and Christmas Pudds to finish off.

The Take A Hike AGM will be on Saturday 3rd December 2011 at the Adelphi Hotel in Leeds (Hunslet Road, Leeds, LS10 1JQ) at 12.00 noon. All members are welcome to come down to have a beer, listen to the reports by the outgoing committee and to vote in a new one!
Only the Web Secretary (Dave Pannell) is offering to stand again for the committee, so we’re looking for people to come forward to take the General Secretary , Membership Secretary, Walks Secretary and Social Secretary roles. You can see an overview of these roles on our committee page here. Nominations for the committee need to be submitted to our current General Secretary Vicky by the 15th November. We will only be accepting nominations at the AGM is no-one has stepped forward for a role.
As this is an AGM, only members of the Ramblers Association can attend and you need to bring your membership card along for us to check on the door. Following this, only members who have their affiliated Ramblers Group as The Leeds and Bradford Area 20s and 30s Group will be able to vote at the AGM. If you are not sure of your group affiliation please contact our Membership Secretary.
Finally, we are also looking to add the role of Footpath Officer to the committee. This is a role that all other Ramblers groups have and is a liaison with the wider Ramblers Association, responsible for reporting any problems we find as a group with footpaths in our area. If you would like more information on this role and think you would like to get involved, please contact Vicky (all committee contacts on the committee page).
The Take a Hike Formal Ball 2011 was held last Saturday night at the Hilton Hotel, Neville Street in Leeds. Sixty-seven intrepid, Yorkshire-based trekkers swapped walking boots and rucksacks for dinner jackets and posh frocks in an evening of eating, drinking and dance floor tom-foolery.
The Hilton Hotel provided a delicious meal as always of chicken with steamed vegetables. The DJ played the expected anthems and there were the usual crimes against the performing arts. The committee would like to whole-heartedly thank Zoe Carroll for single-handedly organising the entire event.
