Walk leaders: worried your group might get too spread out? Want to keep in touch with your backmarker (or, indeed, do they want to yell "Slow down!" at you)? Doing a mixture of walks from the same base and want to see how the other guys are doing? Watched Smokey and the Bandit a few too many times?
What you need is the Take-a-Hike walkie-talkies. With a range of 3 miles and rechargable batteries that last for ages, they're simple to use and a good aid on the hill. Of course, they're no substitute for good walk management, but they're fantastic fun, er, that is, a useful tool in responsible hands.
